The seductive and power-hungry version of modern womanhood is not the result of women turning to God’s word for answers, but sadly, turning away from it. We need to be savvy about what we believe.
We need to question what we’re being told. Instead of blindly following the version of womanhood that permeates our culture today, we, as Christian women, need to take a step back and examine what we’re being fed. Whether I’m searching for it or not, I am being told what it means to be a woman every single day. The billboard whispered in my ear, “buy my perfume and you will be a seductive and powerful woman too.” The messages about womanhood are everywhere. The model looked out longingly with a powerful and seductive pose. Then later that evening there was that billboard featuring a perfume ad.

It was in full color on the cover of a magazine featuring a sexualized woman wearing very little clothing. As I ran some errands later that day I saw another message about my womanhood. It’s teaching us things about life and womanhood. This song, like so many other things in modern culture, is sending us a message. Oh, and I should use sex as a weapon - if needed. We are on God's friend list and are free to have all of the conversations with God that we can handle, and develop our relationship with him. We would find ourselves separated from God, shouting as loud as we could to no avail.įortunately this is not the case for us, because of our relationship with Jesus. Well if we were doing it in our own strength, trying to justify why we deserve Gods attention through our works or behaviour, we would definitely find ourselves in the sinners' camp. This is pretty clear cut and does not leave much scope for interpretation! But what does this mean for us. So let's start with the first point 'God does not listen to sinners'. Secondly when God does listen to us he has the power to do things which far exceed the capabilities of us humble humans. Firstly we see that God is selective in who he chooses to listen to. There are two key points that John tells us in our passage this week. Unless this man came from God, he would not be able to do a thing. Since the beginning of the world nobody has ever heard of anyone giving sight to a person born blind. We know that God does not listen to sinners he does listen to people who respect him and do what he wants them to do.
